Brian and Joyce Lyke are the owners of Sweetwater.
We are longtime Big Sur residents, having lived and worked at Esalen
Institute for 20 years from 1973 to 1993. We have lived at Sweetwater
since 2003 and love the beauty and peace of this place and are happy
to share it with others who are seeking a deeper connection with the
natural world. We also teach our own programs which are described in
the section called: What We Offer.
Brian Lyke, an ordained minister, has been a college chaplain, a
hospice chaplain and an interim pastor. For 20 years he was on the
staff of Esalen Institute in Big Sur where he served as general manager.
He is a student of astrology and mysticism, and finds his peace and
inspiration in the natural world.
Joyce Lyke has been working with groups of students in awareness and
spiritual practices since 1978. She was a senior teacher on the Esalen
Gestalt staff and lived at Esalen for many years. During her time in
Big Sur she was deeply involved in earth-based ceremony, wilderness journeys,
medicine wheel teachings and simply living on the land. She has been
a student in the Diamond Approach since 1984 and a senior teacher of
the D.A. for the past 15 years, leading on-going groups in both the US
and Canada. The Diamond Approach is a contemporary spiritual path which
incorporates the knowledge and practices from depth psychology and spiritual
wisdom traditions; it is a precise and effective method for spiritual
transformation.
