Sweetwater-The Land
Sweetwater is the Lyke Family Homestead at the edge of the Ventana wilderness in Big Sur. From long ago, it was a Costanoan or Esselen Indian encampment where the natives gathered a few miles up from the ocean. Near the Sweetwater Creek are mortar rocks that they used for grinding the acorns.
The spirit of those who gathered here lives on in the community of people who have come to learn earth’s wisdom. Over the years various ceremonial sites have been created to facilitate this teaching and connect us with the power of the earth, her creatures and the wisdom of our spiritual ancestors.
